The Past
There has been a school in Westhoughton since 1739. However, it was not until 1860 that Westhoughton Parochial was opened on the current site. This building was what we know now as the hall. Since then, there have been further additions to the school with extra classrooms being added and a further building being built to house the increasing number of children being admitted to the school.
More Recently
In September 2009, the school changed its name from Westhoughton Parochial CE Primary School to St. Bartholomew’s CE Primary School. The foremost reason for the name change was to emphasise the close links with St. Bartholomew’s Church.
Also in 2011, OfSTED visited and the school was graded as ‘GOOD with a number of OUTSTANDING judgements, including ‘Outcomes for Pupils’.
OfSTED returned in January 2016 to carry out a monitoring visit and St Bartholomew’s was once again successful in being judged as a ‘GOOD‘ school.
In October 2017, St Bartholomew’s was inspected as a Church School and received an OUTSTANDING judgement for it’s ‘Distinctiveness and Effectiveness as a Church of England School’.
In February 2020, just before the first Covid-19 lockdown, OfSTED visited to carry out another monitoring visit. St. Bartholomew’s continues to be a ‘GOOD‘ school with one of the quotes from the report being: “Pupils feel proud to be part of the St. Bartholomew’s family.”
At St. Bartholomew’s, our focus has been, and always will be, developing the whole child. It is extremely important that our children have the opportunity to experience a broad and varied curriculum that will allow them to develop a wonderful love of life-long learning and which will support them in maturing into well-rounded balanced individuals.
Keeping this central to all of our thinking and developments is what makes St. Bartholomew’s a truly magnificent school to learn at.
